The Facebook page Homosexuals not Homogenderuals shared a link to a post on another page (PrimeSource Mortgage, Inc) for the “Transgender Day of Remembrance” (20th November). So far, so good, what on earth could go wrong?
As an aside, I checked the PrimeSource page for a similar posting for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Day (25th November, of last year). Crickets actually, no surprises there. This is their only post last year on the 25th, about low credit rating—appropriate I guess, as women would make up a large number of those.
So what could go wrong? Well, them pesky twanzphobic squirrels for one thing—complaining that positioning the TDOR on the 20th November is deliberate usurping of the EVAW Day on the 25th November each year.
Enter the most kindly twanzplainer!
Well, two actually, but we will focus on the first one, and get back to the second, who ultimately got banned from the page, mainly for the ranty bullshit and stupidity factors.
So, being a good little researcher, I followed the link to the TDOR site (Twanzsplainer #1 actually dropped the link to the wrong page, the correct page is here). The first par tells the story (but I shall include the second, a blatant getting the numbers up). My bolding:
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.
Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgender — that is, as a transsexual, crossdresser, or otherwise gender-variant — each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgender people.
So a bit whoopsies on the fact-checking, Twanzsplainer #1. The murder happened on 28th November, 1998. But a website and candlelight vigil in San Francisco happened in 1999. Nor was it called ‘Transgender Day of Remembrance’ back then either.
So… key date… 28th November. Keep it in mind as we go on with the backstory of the EVAW Day. Again with the my-bolding:
Historically, the date is based on date of the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic; the killings were ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930–1961). In 1981, activists marked November 25 as a day to combat and raise awareness of violence against women more broadly; on December 17, 1999, the date received its official United Nations (UN) resolution.
The UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union have encouraged governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities to support the day as an international observance. For example, the UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) observes the day each year and offers suggestions for other organizations to observe it.
So ‘only’ 18 years before the UN passed a resolution, which is fairly quick as far as woman-things go, given it took an average of 50-70 years for women in the various western countries to get the vote.
Last time I checked (and I am good at the counting and the recognising of numbers!)—1961 comes before 1998; and 1981 also comes before 1999. So fairly clearly, the EVAW Day has its roots, on all counts, before the TDOR.
But the key numbers in all this—the DATES. 25th November (1961) was the date the Mirabal sisters were murdered. 28th November (1998) was the date Rita Hester was murdered. There is no legitimacy to the TDOR of the 20th November, it is a deliberate strategy to put twanz (and by twanz, it always means twanzwomen primarily) first, to usurp EVAW Day.
The thing of it is, 25th November morphs into:
The date of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women also marks the start of the “16 Days of Activism” that precedes Human Rights Day on December 10 each year.
So no one would have had any problem with the TDOR slotting into the middle of that, on its stated commemorative date. But nooooo, they just have to put themselves first and foremost, above everyone else, particularly females. The 20th November. Not the correct date of the 28th.
The thread then degenerated (I did actually typo “degenderated” just then!) into all sorts of TJMSU bullshit.
Twanzsplainer #2 is trying on the “statistically less vulnerable to violence” angle, but yanno, total numbers are also a statistic. This post by Patheos is a good debunking of twanz
JMSU “statistics”. Nice scare-quotes around “women” there Twanzsplainer #2. I will take the opportunity to wind them up by saying stuff like ‘we don’t need to learn how to be women—we are women’. No scare-quotes needed.
Twanzsplainer #2, who eventually got banned from the page for serial rantings of JMSU. I include this gem—two parts of specific libel have been redacted. I have not redacted the first and last pars of general slander, otherwise it would end up looking like a CIA (reluctantly!) released document.
The “raped by [cis] women” is straight out of the MRA Handbook. Yes, apparently millions of menz and twanzwomen ‘too scared’ to report, because of the Big Scary Females (even though, on average, actual females are physically smaller and lighter than males, incl twanzwomen). I digressed.
The key part of that ranty libellous bullshit was this part:
Polls across several regions of the US report that in 1 in 4 trans women who have sought refuge at women’s shelters from abuse have been raped within the shelter.
Note that our most-fearful-twanz does not bother to cite any of these “polls”, no, most-fearful-twanz just works on the old ‘repeat a lie often enough, it becomes truth’.
But here is the thing, nutter-twanz kept harping throughout the entire thread how much danger fearful-widdle-twanzwomen were of actual women, and apparently getting raped in women’s shelters in the order of “1 in 4”.
The major argument for twanzwomen entering female-only spaces is on the grounds of safety—their claim that it is ‘unsafe’ to use facilities for their own sex—but in the next breath, saying how unsafe poor-widdle-twanzwomen are from females.
If we take that TJMSU on face value (even if a crock of lies), then it makes no sense whatsoever for them to seek refuge in female-only spaces, quite clearly, they ‘need’ their own twanz-only spaces. We would be quite happy with that arrangement, let me tell you!
Of course, their usual follow-up to that is “but there are no twanz refuges/facilities”. Well guess what? Refuges for women and children did not exist before the 1970s either. They were built on a shoestring budget of NOTHING, by women, by feminists. Nothing stopping twanzjacktivists from doing the same—spend a bit less on plastic surgeries and make-up perhaps—and establish them yourselves, instead of telling feminists to DIAF every five minutes. You would have both the time and the money. Also, the per capita resources (both individually and from government) are far greater for twanz.
Anyway, it looks as if Twanzsplainer #2 did a bit of an “own goal” there, and I can imagine his twanz buddies will be none-too-happy about his fabricated rants. He’d be in more danger getting beaten up from them, not us. Yes, twanz kill twanz. Men kill twanz.
Also in that thread, I did at one point link to the ONLY case I know of where a female attacked a twanzwomen. That is the Chrissy Lee Polis incident, and did not happen because the female attacker thought CLP was twanz, quite the opposite, the attacker thought she was another female, eyeing off the attacker’s boyfriend. Twanz are in more danger from each other, than from females. Like the (cross-dressing) British soliciter pushed under a train by a twanzwoman. Yeah, probably because they are a danger even to each other, they want access to female-only spaces. Bad luck dudes, you dropped your collective size-12 pumps well and truly into that one, and continue to do so, with the ‘FABs are dangerous to us twanz’ LIE. Stop lying about us.
